EE Tyneside, NT2
Client: EE Tyneside
Project Duration: 1 year
Project Value: £500k
Flowing Energy Solutions was contracted to install a 549kw solar PV system at EE Tyneside, as part of their broader strategy to reduce energy costs and improve their carbon footprint. The project was a key step towards EE’s commitment to sustainability, and Flowing Energy Solutions provided a comprehensive solution designed to maximise energy efficiency and long-term savings.
The project entailed the installation of the 549kw PV system across the roof of the EE Tyneside building. To prepare the site for the installation, our sister company, John Flowers (Flat & Industrial Roofing) Ltd, was contracted to seal the roof with an Alumasc Caltech Metcoat coating. This step was vital for ensuring that the roof was in optimal condition before the solar panels were installed. The Alumasc coating provided an additional layer of durability and waterproofing, securing the long-term integrity of both the roof and the solar system.
One of the key challenges of this project was due to the location and operation aspects of the EE Tyneside building. The roof faced a main road, meaning that the panels had to be delivered and lifted onto the roof in a controlled and safe manner, without causing disruption to the building’s operations.
To overcome this, we employed a detailed logistics plan, which included the use of night shifts for solar panel installations and crane works. Our in-house scaffold team also played a role in setting up purpose-built loading bay, ensuring that all panel deliveries could be handled safely. The installation of the solar panels was scheduled around the client’s operational needs, with all panel fitting being programmed for night shifts to avoid any interference with the fully operational building during the day.
This project demonstrates Flowing Energy Solutions’ commitment to delivering high-quality renewable energy solutions in even the most complex environments. By working efficiently around the client’s operational needs and maintaining minimum disruption, we were able to deliver a solution that meets EE Tyneside’s sustainability target while ensuring continued business operations without interruption.
